Veille
Veille combines articles from 26 public RSS and Atom feeds with daily news searches across 48 European countries. Explore source-attributed coverage by date and topic, consult archives retained for up to 400 days, and compare country coverage and trends. Agora, the AI research assistant, answers open questions, translates and compares articles, searches the web and consults archives for selected dates. Categories and groupings are automated, map markers use textual clues, and coverage depends on available sources; Agora can make mistakes.
Project details
Objective
The goal is to bring current reporting and historical archives into one editorial monitoring workspace: preserve source attribution, explore coverage across Europe, and let readers ask questions about the collected articles.
Technologies used
The static HTML, CSS and JavaScript interface uses Cloudflare Pages Functions for RSS/Atom aggregation, GNews searches and API routes. A scheduled Cloudflare Worker collects news for 48 European countries into Cloudflare KV archives retained for up to 400 days; GDELT can search historical dates. Leaflet renders geographic context from article text and open administrative data. Workers AI helps classify some ambiguous keyword matches when configured. Agora sends a limited set of recent or archived articles to OpenRouter Auto and can use OpenRouter Web Search; responses cite sources but may be mistaken. The PWA also supports personal HTTPS feeds, saved articles, alerts, shareable filters, coverage comparisons, trend charts and social-media searches.
Challenges and solutions
The challenge is making a large multilingual collection explorable without obscuring how it is assembled. Feed availability and archive searches vary; keyword classification and place detection are automated, and map markers reflect textual clues rather than independently confirmed locations. Multiple outlets may carry the same wire report. Agora can translate and compare collected coverage, but its AI analysis and web results still require readers to consult the cited original sources.
